Why are so many companies truly awful at hiring?
Is it that hard? No!!!
It is not that hard. Do the following activities to define and/or refine your hiring process and you will begin to hire great candidates way above your punching weight!
1) Make hiring a core competency of your company DNA
2) Everyone “owns” the hiring process… not just HR
3) Include aptitude testing very early in the screening process
4) Create and utilize a scorecard to remove the “Beauty Contest” element of hiring
5) Incorporate personality profile to uncover communication style, not a panacea, but helps with culture fit
6) Create a team that will work with the candidate and drive and own the process and the results
7) Define a tight process… 2 weeks for most candidates, 4 -6 weeks for executives… MAX! 2-3 Months is ridiculous… you will lose great candidates, and it defines that your company has not made hiring a core component of your company DNA
8) Make a determination and decision quickly and make an offer
9) Define an inclusive onboarding process that helps create candidate immersion into the culture and company
10) Wash, rinse, repeat
I have put the above process into place at 5 companies, both public and private, it has made a huge difference in the candidates we attracted and hired as part of the team!
It will make a difference in your company! In your experience, what company had the best hiring process you have ever seen?
